God's Plan

God has a plan for your life.
He brought you into this world to fulfill that plan.
It is the best plan that anyone could ever make for you.
It is a plan that will bring Him the greatest glory and you the greatest good.
From the beginning of this calendar year until its end,
God is working out His plan.
As you follow God's plan for your life, you do so by faith.
It is important to remember that He is the Guide and you are the follower.
He does not need to bring you into His planning room
as a consultant to help Him decide what is best for your life.
God has called you to trust Him and to take the next step of obedience according to His will. God has said,

"I will bring the blind by a way they did not know;
I will lead them in paths they have not known.
I will make darkness light before them,
And crooked places straight.
These things I will do for them, And not forsake them."
~~ Isaiah 42:16 NKJV

Here are some ways that God is working out His plan:
He is your Shepherd—He is leading you.
He is your Provider—He is taking care of you.
He is your Strength—He is enabling you.
He is your Counselor—He is speaking to you.
He is your Shield—He is protecting you.
He is your Comfort—He is encouraging you.
He is your Father—He is blessing you.

An Easter Prayer

Lord,

Thank You for the gift of HOPE.

You gave us on Easter morning.

Because of You we know that no problem is too difficult and even death does not have power over us.

Thank You for the gift of JOY.

You gave us when You were resurrected.

Because of You we know that no matter how challenging life may be, in the end we will rejoice again.

Thank You for the gift of LOVE.

You gave us when You laid down Your life.

Because of You we know that there is no sin too great to separate us and we are incredibly valuable to You.

Thank You for the gift of LIFE.

You gave us when You left the tomb.

Because of Easter we know this world is just the beginning

《從地名看歷史》4：席捲歐亞大陸的「異邦人」

在語言地理學上有一個專有名詞「bal-wal-gul」，能充分說明民族遷移以及不同民族之間語言相互影響的狀況。

「bal-wal-gul 語群」字義上是指「人、民族」的語群，其原型是印度古梵語。
「bal」一般認為起源於模仿口吃者講話聲音「bar...bar...」。換言之，「bal」是一種象聲詞（擬聲語），但意思漸漸從「口吃者」變成「說話聽不懂的人」，也就是「異邦人」。而「異邦人多半會被認為是「野蠻人」。最典型的例子是，北非有一支名為「貝爾貝爾」（BerBer）的民族。不過，「BerBer」是西洋人取的名稱，這支民族自稱「意瑪吉牽」（Imajigen）人，意指「自由之人」。至於「Berber」則源自古希臘語「Barbars」，意思是「野蠻人」。後來，「bar」這個詞經由拉丁語進入英語，至今英語仍有代表「野蠻人」的 barbarian，以及延伸出來的形容詞 barbarous。因此，歐美女性常見的名字 Barbara 以及理髮店的英語「barber」，原意其實都是「不可解的、異邦人」。

至於「wal」及「gul」二字，與「bar」都有著異曲同工的意義，都是由原先指「講話聽不懂的人」演變成具有「人」與「民族」的意思。
亞洲方面，蒙古（Mongol）可說是最具代表性的例子。Mongol 的「Mon」，意思就是今天中文的「猛」，發音相同，「Mongol」意思便是「勇猛之人」。至於「gol」，則是前述「gul」演變出來的。
從十六世紀前半到十九世紀中葉長期支配印度次大陸的伊斯蘭王朝「莫臥兒帝國」（Mughal Empire），「Mughal」便是融合蒙古語與波斯語形成的。莫臥兒帝國雖然被視為系出蒙古帝國，歷代皇帝卻都是土耳其裔人士。
「gul」與「gol」後來常被拿來當作民族名與地名，如今天天山山脈北側的內陸國家「吉爾吉斯」，原文就是「kirgiz」（意指「草原之人」）。然後，中國唐朝時期稱為「回鶻」（Uigur）的西域遊牧民族，「Uigur」的意思也是「人」。有趣的是，即使是亞洲大陸最東邊的堪察加半島，當地人把南邊的群島命名為 Kuril 群島（千島列島），並稱呼當地的愛奴是人是「gur」（人）。千島愛奴人有個「矮人神話」傳說，名為「koropokkul」，意指矮人是「住在款冬葉子下面的人」。

歐洲至今仍存在著蒙古匈奴族後裔，也就是「馬札兒人」（Magyar）。其所建立的國家，則是匈牙利（Hungary）。有些學者提出不同主張，認為馬札兒人並非匈奴族後裔，而是五至七世紀居住於當地的土耳其系歐諾格爾族（Onoguru）後代。而「Onoguru」這個名稱後來進入德語變成「Ungarun」，再進入英語，才成為今天的 Hungary。即使如此，匈牙利是「匈奴族居住之地」，而「馬札兒」的名稱由「莫臥兒」或「蒙古」衍生而來，如此解釋仍有相當說服力。馬札兒人的故地位於烏拉山山脈西側的卡馬河（Kama River）流域，經由黑海北岸草原進入多瑙河流域，再往多瑙河上游發展，九世紀末才定居現在的匈牙利地區。後來不斷與阿巴爾（Avar）人及斯拉夫人混血，約西元一千年左右，在聖伊斯特丹（Istvan）一世的努力之下，終於完成國家統一。

保加利亞人（Bulgaria），字意也是「保加河沿岸過來的人所成立的國家」；法國的古名「高盧」（Gallia）以及英國西南部的「威爾斯」（Wales）乃至於「北歐海盜」維京人的古稱「Vikingr」，也都屬於歐洲常見「bal-wal-gul 語群」。

《從地名看歷史》3：《東方見聞錄》登場的奇特地名

Marco Polo (1254-1324，Italian traveller & adventurer)，他曾著寫《東方見聞錄》一書。在這書中，他首度向西方人詳細介紹包括日本在內的東洋地理與風俗。

根據考察，蒙古地區在 10 世紀左右，由名為「契丹」（原始發音「kitai」，意思是「精煉」）的民族建立「遼」國，統治東北亞地區。雖然契丹族只是蒙古族的一個分支，也不是元帝國或元朝創始者，但他們曾統治中國塞北地區達兩個世紀，因此，「kitai」這個詞在北亞、中亞乃至於西方流傳。即使到了元代，蒙古地區仍有許多講「kitai 語」，中原民族也將蒙古居民稱為「kitai 人」。Marco Polo 筆下的 katai 顯然是發音上的轉訛。作者辻原康夫在其著作中提及總公司設在香港的 Cathay Pacific Airlines，其「Cathay」一字也是從「kitai」一詞衍生出來的。

在《東方見聞錄》出現另一個字「manzi」是中文的「蠻子」，最初是漢族對南方少數民族的蔑稱，但後來因蒙古人消滅宋朝支配整個中國之後，漢族淪為被支配者，在蒙古人眼中其地位和南方少數民族差不多，故被稱為「蠻子」或「南人」。相信 Marco Polo 所聽到的「蠻子」是蒙古人歧視漢族的「差別用語」。

蒙古人消滅北宋時，漢族繼續統治南方，其首都「臨安」（今天的「杭州」）在當時非常繁華。蒙古人把「Kinzai」翻譯成「天上的都市」，但原來漢語的解釋是「臨時安居之都」。這可追溯蒙古人佔領華北之後，宋朝南遷，以杭州為首都，易名「臨安」，意思就是南宋統治者還是要收復失地，將國都搬回開封（汴京）。因為有這樣的含意，南宋民間便將臨安稱為「行在」（偏安之地）。而這個詞輾轉傳到 Marco Polo 耳中，就變成了「kinsai」。

除此以外，還有一些與「kinsai」一詞類似的例子，那就是「zaiton」。泉州在宋、元時代是東南亞最大貿易港及「海上絲路」的起點。在《東方見聞錄》中所描述的 zaiton 市確是世界最大的海港，每天大概有一百艘胡椒船入港。不過「泉州」是南宋及元朝的正式地名，為何被 Marco Polo 冠以「zaiton」一詞？原來，泉州地區在元朝時代大量栽種原產於越南、春天盛開大紅花的「刺桐」，泉州的別名「刺桐城」便由此得來。當時來泉州做生意的波斯商人也習慣這個名稱，只是轉為阿拉伯語時有點走音，於是變為「zaiton」。

在《東方見聞錄》提到一處著名的「黃金之國」，Marco Polo 稱為「zipangu」，這「黃金之國」就是日本。在中國《魏志》等史書都稱日本為「倭國」，直到唐朝，日本派遣使節前往交流，並自稱為「日本國」，「日本」這個名稱便被中國人接受，只不過發音是「Jihpenkuo」。十三世紀後半，Marco Polo 到訪中國時將發音變成「zipangu」。當然，在 Marco Polo 時代，活字印刷技術還沒有發明，文字傳播只能用抄寫方式，誤記的情況非常普遍，所以當時歐洲人針對「日本」的發音除了前述的「zipangu」外，還有「zipanguri」或「Sipangu」等，非常紊亂。這些不同的發音，可算是全由唐朝中國人「日本」的發音衍生而來。這種情況就像「支那」與「China」都是「秦」的衍生字一樣。

在古代，文字傳播過程中出現類似發音歧異或轉訛的情形，是難以避免的。
